Our Story
Dr. Nate Fuks, who earned his PhD in Counselling Psychology from McGill University in 2014 and has been licensed as an OPQ psychologist since that time, brings extensive experience from his private practice, consulting experience, and a significant academic background to his work at Empirical Wisdom Psychology and Consulting. In addition to his clinical work, he held a professorship at McGill University, demonstrating a profound commitment to clinical supervision and the education of mental health professionals. He first served as the director of the Psychoeducational & Counselling Clinic and a Director of Clinical Training at McGill University in Counselling Psychology Program. He then took on the role of director at the Virginia I. Douglas Centre for Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology at McGill. In these sequential leadership positions, Dr. Fuks was instrumental in training numerous cohorts of psychologists, psychotherapists, and counsellors at both the PhD and Master’s levels, drawing on his wide-ranging and diverse clinical expertise. Dr. Nate Fuks is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) program at Yorkville University. He also serves as a Group Supervisor for Doctoral and Master's level interns at Openspace Clinic in Montreal.

Prior to his career in academia, Dr. Fuks pursued an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University and excelled in a series of challenging and evolving leadership roles across both the public and private sectors. As a Senior Consultant in Strategy and Operations and the Lead of the Program Management Office for Enterprise Sustainability at Deloitte Touche, Dr. Fuks worked with some of the largest companies in Canada, gaining invaluable insight into complex organizational dynamics and large-scale initiatives. These experiences, combined with his industry observations, raised his awareness of the importance of newcomer and minority integration and fueled his passion for research, teaching, and community involvement on these issues. Fluent in four languages and deeply engaged in international and multicultural ventures, his research today primarily focuses on the intersecting identities and mental health of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and refugees.

Community Engagement
Dr. Nate Fuks is a dedicated community activist and leader who has founded several impactful initiatives aimed at supporting underserved and diverse communities. Among these is the Argyle Institute Pride Psychotherapy Team, a pioneering program that provided affirming, specialized mental health services to 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, helping to address the unique challenges faced by this community. Most recently, Dr. Fuks founded the McGill Ukrainian Mental Health Aid Initiative, which offers critical psychological support to Ukrainians affected by war and displacement.
